A CEC Legacy Honor recognizes an outstanding CEC member who has been a leader and contributor within the Council’s various units, divisions, and national governing bodies and has significantly influenced the field throughout a lifelong career. The honor may be bestowed as an active member or posthumously. This honor begins with a Legacy Proclamation honoring the CEC member while associating that member’s contributions to the history of CEC and the advancements in the special education field. The coordination of a Legacy Proclamation is facilitated, in partnership, between the CEC Board of Directors and the CEC-Division of Leaders and Legacy. The CEC Board of Directors serves as the final approving authority.

When donations made toward someone’s Legacy Honor totals $2,000 or more, that individual will be recognized on this page with a photo, bio and quotes from contributors and colleagues. Legacy Honorees will be recognized at the annual CEC Convention and in appropriate donor news.

The CEC Legacy Honor program will open in mid to late 2023. For more information, please contact giving@exceptionalchildren.org.

NOTE: The Legacy Honors requires a nominations through the CEC-DLL Legacy Proclamation process. The intent of the Legacy Honors is to offer those nominators (and others), if interested, the opportunity to donate to CEC in honor of that individual. Please note that all Legacy Honors recipients will have been nominated and selected through the CEC-DLL Legacy Proclamation process. There is no other process to nominate an individual for the Legacy Honors program.
